I am also having a little confusion with the feeding guide. I have2 male chihuahua a 5 month 7 lb and a 8 year old 12 lb the puppy is much more active and the older one is very sedatary Garfield to be exact lol. But I plan on making the puppy meal for both . I just don’t know how much to feed the older one . To my understanding the puppy needs like 499 grams max a day can you help me with a guest an ate for the older one ?

can I use the organs that come inside a whole turkey ? And since your recepi already includes sardines if I use turkey meat do I double the amount of sardines , or leave it as is and just substitute the beef with the turkey?

Yes, you can use the organs that come with a turkey, and yes, you can double the sardines too! 💛

I can’t find sardines without added salt is there anything else I can substitute ? I have omega fish oil in the house I know that.

As long as the sardines are in water and you rinse them, they’re good for your dog. Yes, omega oil is also a good alternative!

Hello! Can I use lamb or turkey instead of beef? ☺️

Dog Child

You can easily swap red meats for white meats in a recipe. If you’re substituting with white meats, be sure to add an omega-3 source like sardines or salmon oil to keep the meal balanced. 💛 For lamb, you can leave the recipe as is!

How do you calculate the portions for a 7 month old that weighs 20 pounds. I have been reading the chart but im a little confused.

I’m just trying to figure out the daily amount for my 7 month old puppy, she weighs 13.5lb and I think using my calculations it would be around 533 grams per day. Thanks in advance.

That sounds good! Each dog is different and requires a different portion
of food. Please use this as a guideline only and monitor your dog’s health and weight.

What is the best recipe for 3 - 4 week old puppies please :)

Puppies have vastly different nutritional requirements, mostly in regards to calcium and phosphorus which is vital when laying down new bone and growing rapidly. That's why we are currently formulating a puppy guide to help you feed your growing pup the proper nutrition for their unique needs. In the meantime, may use this recipe to get you started. https://dogchild.co/blogs/recipes/homemade-puppy-food-recipe-1 !

We don't recommend home cooking until 14 weeks!

I see the recipe notes say, "Suitable for dogs older than 14 weeks." Do you have a different recipe you would recommend for an 11-week old puppy?

How do you cook the eggs for the whole food version please.

Dog Child

November 28, 2024
For the whole food version, simply crack the eggs into the skillet with the beef and water once the meat is browned. Cook until the eggs are fully scrambled and cooked through, and then add in the remaining ingredients. This ensures that the eggs are properly cooked and fully incorporated into the mix. 😊

Can I substitute beef heart with chicken heart? And if so, what would the quantity become?

Dog Child

November 28, 2024
Yes, you can substitute beef heart with chicken heart! You would need about 240g (8.5 oz) of chicken heart to replace the 240g of beef heart. Just make sure to chop it into small, bite-sized pieces before adding it to the mix.

This product is great. It would be greater if you could reverse the process by allowing us to put the full recipe in, say for a week and divide it by the number of intended servings. This would make it easier to check if a provided recipe is balanced. Maybe this is already in there and I don't see it?

If i give my puppy a multi vitamin daily do I still need to add the essential nutrient mix? She’s on a multi that her breeder recommended so would I be giving her too many vitamins if I add that to her food as well?

Dog Child

September 9, 2024
We actually do not recommend multivitamins-as they are not enough to balance out the nutritional needs of a dog. However, our essential nutrient mix has all of the micronutrients, minerals, pre & probiotics that your dog needs to thrive, and to balance out your home cooked recipe! How old is your pup that you are feeding this recipe to?

Dog Child

Hi Shirley! There is a whole foods version of the recipe, and one that simplifies with the essential nutrient mix and hemp seed oil being the only 2 non-food source nutrients-you are welcome to use whichever recipe you prefer!
